Several Bears Post Career Highs in 3-2 Loss at Indiana State

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Missouri State and Indiana State needed extra time in the fifth set to decide their Missouri Valley Conference volleyball match Friday, and the Sycamores came out on top 16-14 in the final period despite the Bears filling the stat sheet with superlatives at ISU Arena.

Missouri State (5-12, 2-3) led 7-3 in the final set, then fought off two match points before ISU (3-10, 2-3) closed it out to win by set scores of 22-25, 25-23, 14-25, 25-21, 16-14.

The Bears' defense made the difference in the first and third set wins, combining for 44 digs while holding the Sycamores to .103 hitting in those two frames. Indiana State hit .258 with 44 total kills in its three victorious sets, while the MSU offense hovered between .167 and .267 all match ended at .213 on the night.

Missouri State served nine aces with only four errors and recorded 10 blocks.

MSU Superlatives:
  • Manuela Ibarguen finished with career highs of 24 kills and 21 digs for the first 20-20 match by a Bear since Amelia Flynn did it against Evansville on March 1, 2021. She has a double-double in all five MVC matches this season.
  • Morgan Sprague had career highs of 20 digs and six blocks. With 53 assists, she posted the first 50-assist, 20-dig match at MSU since Daniele Messa at Drake on Oct. 13, 2017.
  • Freshman Jaycee Fixsen tallied 15 kills, which exceeded her season total entering the match.
  • Kate Owen tied her career high with 31 digs, including 15 in the first set.
  • Missouri State's 105 team digs were its most in a match since Oct. 21, 2017.
  • The Bears' 69 kills were their most in a match since March 1, 2021.
  • With seven blocks, Azyah Green moved to 12th on MSU's career list with 417.

The Bears visit Evansville (5-14, 2-3) at 5 p.m. Saturday. The Purple Aces were swept by Southern Illinois on Friday.
