
Tennis Bears Gear Up for MVC Individual Championships

SPRINGFIELD – Missouri State women's tennis begins the Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championships at Cooper Tennis Complex here Friday through Sunday.

Each day will feature doubles action followed by singles action, with play always beginning at 9 a.m. The tournament will take place over eight different courts, and the matches are expected to conclude around 5 p.m. on Friday, 3-4 p.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free.

Doubles action will feature three flights, with first round action on Friday, semifinal matches on Saturday and championship matches on Sunday. Singles play will feature first round and first round backdraw action on Friday, semifinals and fifth place matches on Saturday and finals and third place matches on Sunday.

MSU players enter the tournament with a combined record of 22-31. Silva Avakian will begin Friday with a 4-2 record in singles, while Sandra Lukacova has the best record on the team, currently at a 5-1 mark.

The doubles team of Juliette Robinson and Lukacova holds a record of 4-2 going into the weekend, and the duo of Alyson Piskulic and Diana Cabrera hold a record of 3-3.
