
Women’s Soccer Continues Non-Conference Slate This Week

SPRINGFIELD – The Missouri State women's soccer team continues its non-conference campaign this week as they travel to Saint Louis on Thursday at 7 p.m. (CT) before returning to Allison South Stadium to host Omaha on Sunday at 1 p.m. (CT).

The Bears will look to continue their winning ways with matches at Saint Louis (Thursday, 7 p.m.) before hosting Omaha (Sunday, 1 p.m.). Attendance is free to all home games this season at Allison South Stadium. The match at Saint Louis will be broadcast on ESPN+.

Quick Kicks
- Missouri State defeated Louisiana Tech, 1-0, last Sunday. Freshman Jenna Anderson provided the game-winner for Missouri State when she headed in a corner from Grace O'Keefe for her first collegiate goal in the 66th minute.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Katherine Montgomery picked up her second clean sheet of the season, as the MSU defense limited LA Tech to just one shot on goal during the match.
- With the win over Louisiana Tech, Missouri State improved to 3-0 at home for the first time since 2014.
- Sierra Fury leads Missouri State in minutes played with 525 through six matches this season.
- O'Keefe has made an immediate impact for Missouri State this season, leading the Bears with six points on four assists and one goal. She has scored a goal or tallied an assist in five of the Bears' six matches this season. Her four assists lead the MVC and rank 28th nationally.
- Missouri State ranks third in The Valley and 89th nationally in shot accuracy as the Bears have sent 54.2% of their shots toward the goal.
- In last Thursday's match, Missouri State picked up its second win of the season by defeating Oral Roberts, 2-1. Junior Maddie Augustine's game-winning goal in the 81st minute off an assist from Fury was the difference-maker. Kennady Orlick also added her second goal of the season in the 48th minute, with Fury providing the assist.
- With her assists, Fury was the first Missouri State player to have two assists in a match since Kate Schroeder did so in a 5-1 win over Tulsa on Sept. 13, 2019.
- The Missouri State offense has been much improved in 2021, as the Bears lead the MVC in assists with nine and rank fifth in goals scored with eight.
- Head Coach Rob Brewer announced his retirement on Aug.18, which will go into effect at the completion of the season. Brewer started the Missouri State program in 1996 and has helped lead the Bears to NCAA Tournament appearances in 2000 and 2017, in addition to finishing in the top three of the Missouri Valley Conference standings 11 times. Brewer has helped mentor 109 all-conference selections and 82 academic all-conference honorees during his tenure and has compiled a 222-202-57 record with the Bears.
- Nine Bears have tallied a point so far this season.
- In the MVC preseason coaches' poll, Missouri State was picked fifth in the nine-team league garnering 38 points. Loyola was voted the preseason favorite for the fourth straight year. Illinois State came in second, Indiana State came in third and Valparaiso was picked fourth.
- Head coach Rob Brewer has presided over the Missouri State women's soccer program for the entirety of its 26-season history. Overall, Missouri State has produced a 222-202-57 record during Brewer's tenure. The 1999 Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year has produced 109 all-conference selections and 86 academic all-conference honorees. In 26 seasons as a program, his team has reached the MVC Tournament 20 times and has only six losing campaigns. The Bears reached the NCAA tournament in 2000 and 2017 under Brewer's guidance.
- It will be a homecoming of sorts when Missouri State travels to Saint Louis as eight Bears hail from the St. Louis metro area. (Kaeli Benedict- Bridgton: Isabelle Burke, Jacqueline Baetz – St. Louis: Anna Durnin – Wentzville: Alyssa Buchheit – St. Charles: Brynna Rutherford – St. Peters: Genevieve McIntyre, Camielle Day – Dardenne Prairie). Burke played at Saint Louis for her first two seasons before transferring to Missouri State. She was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team as a freshman while starring for the Billikens.
Protecting the Home Turf
- Missouri State has an all-time record of 135-69-22 (.645) at home. The Bears have posted winning records at home in 22 of their 25 campaigns, highlighted by 13-straight winning seasons from 2000-2013.
Bears From Abroad
- The Missouri State women's soccer features team three international players in the freshman class this season. Eyglo Thorsteinsdottir and Eydis Helgadottir are both from Reykjavik, Iceland, while Iraia Arrue is from Caracas, Venezuela. Thorsteinsdottir and Helgadottir are the second and third Bears in program history from Iceland, while Arrue is the first from Venezuela.
- The Missouri State coaching staff has developed quite a pipeline from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Overland Park, Kan., in recent years as four alums are on the roster. Bella Bryson, Carly Raunig, Jackson, and O'Keefe all prepped for the Saints. All time, there have been eight Aquinas graduates to take the pitch for the Bears.
- Saint Louis (1-5-0) has played four Power Five opponents so far this season.
- The Billikens are coming off a 2-1 loss at Purdue last Sunday. Freshman Forward Emily Gaebe provided their lone goal in the 88th minute with an assist from Anna Walsh.
- Gaebe leads SLU in scoring with four points on two goals this season.
- Kate Shields is in her ninth season leading the Billikens. Under his guidance, SLU has compiled a 101-45-13 (.673) mark, including three NCAA tournament appearances.
- Omaha is 3-2-0 on the season with wins over UNI (1-0), Nebraska (1-0) and Northern Colorado (1-0). Forward Sophia Green provided the golden goal in the Mavericks win over Northern Colorado.
- Omaha has allowed just five goals this season and has recorded three shutout wins.
- Goalkeeper Mia Reedtz-Rehde-Olesen has been impressive this season, making 12 saves while allowing just one goal.
- Saint Louis leads the all-time series with Missouri State, 11-2-5. The Billikens took the last matchup on Sept. 18, 2019, by a score of 1-0 in Springfield.
- The Billikens are the only Atlantic-10 member that Missouri State has faced in its history.
- Missouri State holds the advantage over Omaha, 6-1-1 all time. The Bears defeated the Mavericks, 1-0, in their last matchup on Sept. 21, 2019.
- The Bears have a 29-17-8 mark all time against Summit League members.
- After Sunday's tilt with Omaha, the Bears open MVC play at Southern Illinois on Friday, Sept. 7. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. (CT).
