CLEVELAND, Ohio – Dylan Coleman became the 22nd Missouri State baseball alum to play in the Major Leagues Tuesday, a day after he was called up by the Kansas City Royals for the team's series in Cleveland.
Coleman, a fourth-round pick in the 2018 draft, wore number 65 and pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning against the Indians at Progressive Field.
The right-hander began the season at Double-A Northwest Arkansas, pitching in 18 games before a promotion to Triple-A Omaha in July. At the two levels, Coleman went 5-1 with seven saves and a 3.28 ERA, striking out 93 hitters in 57.2 innings over 45 appearances, and holding the opposition to a .186 batting average.
At Missouri State, Coleman was a three-year starter in the weekend rotation from 2016-18 and ranks second in school history in career strikeouts (317) and starts (46). He was a Freshman All-American in 2016 and went 24-9 with a .230 opponent average in his career, helping the Bears to a pair of Missouri Valley Conference regular season titles, one MVC Tournament championship, and NCAA Regional berths in 2017 and 2018.
Coleman is the sixth former Bear to play in the big leagues this season, joining Jake Burger, Ross Detwiler, Mike Kickham, Pierce Johnson and Luke Voit.
