ST LOUIS – Missouri State's
Darian Frost,
Madison Hunsaker,
Olivia Krehbiel and
Daphne Plummer garnered All-Missouri Valley Conference laurels as the league announced its postseason softball honors Wednesday morning.
Â
Frost and Krehbiel earned a spot on the first-team list while Hunsaker and Plummer were selected to the second team. Hunsaker was also named to the MVC All-Defensive Team.
Â
It becomes the second All-MVC first-team recognition for Frost (Sr., C, Lee's Summit, Mo.) after she made the postseason list in 2018 as well. She started 33 of her 38 games played in 2021 to bring her career total to 194 appearance. Her six doubles against Valley teams ranks fifth in the conference while her 16 RBI is 11th.Â
Â
Frost, who was a 2021 Senior CLASS award candidate, became the sixth Missouri State player to record multiple grand slams after she clubbed the second one of her career at Valpo on April 18. She also tallied her 120th career hit in the regular-season finale against Evansville on May 7.
Â
Krehbiel (So., 3B, Lee's Summit, Mo.) received her first all-conference nod after hitting .352 in her sophomore campaign while leading the team in RBI (30), extra-base hits (13) and walks (24). In league games, she ranks fourth in the MVC in RBI (24), fifth in slugging (.746) and sixth in hitting (.418) and home runs (5).Â
Â
In her 38 starts this year, Krehbiel totaled a team-high 72 assists while she occupied the hot corner for the Bears. She closed out the regular season with a 12-game reached base streak which featured a four-RBI outing against Indiana State on May 1.
Â
Joining Frost as the two Bears to repeat as all-conference selections, Plummer (Sr., SS, Lee's Summit, Mo.) earned a spot on the second-team list for the second time of her career after doing so in 2018 as a freshman. The senior shortstop paced the Bears in hitting (.403), runs scored (32), hits (50), triples (4) and stolen bases (16). Against MVC opponents, she finished in the top-6 in multiple conference categories, ranking second in hitting (.457), third in hits (32), sixth in runs scored (21), first in triples (3), fifth in stolen bases (7) and fourth in on-base percentage (.524).
Â
Plummer totaled at least 50 hits in a season for the second time in her career after she set the MSU freshman record with 63 in 2018 while coming within one of the 50-hit mark in 2019 (49).
Â
Missouri State two-way player, Hunsaker (Sr., P/1B, Peculiar, Mo.) garnered her first All-MVC honors after she played in all 41 games of the 2021 regular season and started in 40 of them. She posted a .274 average with six doubles, three home runs and 21 RBI at the plate while going 9-4 with 86 innings pitched in her 23 appearances in the circle. She ranks fifth among Valley pitchers with a 1.87 ERA and 10th in strikeouts with 79.
Â
Hunsaker earned both MVC Player of the Week (April 19) and Pitcher of the Week (Feb. 22) honors earlier this season, becoming the second Bear to collect both of the conference's weekly awards after Kate Madden accomplished the feat in the 1996 season.Â
Â
En route to her MVC All-Defensive Team distinction, Hunsaker boasted a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage with 100 putouts and 16 assists divvied up between her 17 starts in the circle and 13 at first base.
Â
As the No. 3 seed, Missouri State heads to Evansville, Ind. for the MVC Tournament and will play a quarterfinal game on Thursday, May 13 at 7 p.m. The Bears will face the winner of No. 6 Bradley and No. 7 Indiana State/No. 10 Valparaiso in their opening game of the single-elimination tournament.
