April 16, 2021

SPRINGFIELD – The Missouri State women's tennis team concludes its regular-season slate with a two-match road swing as they travel to Northern Iowa (Saturday) and Drake (Sunday) this weekend.

"I know the team is ready to get back on court and compete in the final stretch of regular-season matches," Head Coach Hannah Keeling said. "We have been working really hard to keep building at practice and I know they are ready for the next two weekends ahead."

The match at Northern Iowa will take place on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Cedar Falls, Iowa. UNI is 2-12 on the season and 0-4 in MVC play. In its last match out, the Panthers were shut out by Bradley, 7-0. In singles play Valetina Caro (No. 4), Emma Carr (No. 1) and Thaissa Moreira (No. 3) all lead the team with a 4-8 individual record.

After the match at UNI, the Bears head to Drake for a 10 a.m. showdown on Sunday. Drake is 8-7 overall and 2-2 in conference play. The Bulldogs fell to Illinois State, 2-5 in their last contest on April 11. Daria Walczak and Ines Stephani scored victories for Drake. Ines leads the Bulldogs with a 7-3 record while competing in the No. 4 singles spot. Liza Petushkova and Maria Tatarnikova lead Drake in doubles play as they hold a 7-4 record in the No. 1 position.

With two wins this weekend, the Bears would solidify their spot as the No. 2 seed in the MVC Championships which MSU will host at Cooper Tennis Complex April 23-25. The last time the Bears hosted the MVC Championships in 2018, they won the event.
