CHICAGO – Missouri State and Loyola exchanged set victories Sunday afternoon with the Ramblers winning the odd-numbered sets and thus the match by scores of 25-21, 20-25, 25-15, 19-25 and 15-10.
The Bears (11-3, 7-2 Missouri Valley Conference) got 22 kills from
Amelia Flynn and 20 from
Brooklyn Cink, the second consecutive match that both players had 20 kills, while freshman
Lindsay Lahr hit .429 with 10 kills.
The Ramblers (7-3, 6-3) piled up 20 kills to take the first set despite Cink countering with eight winners by herself, and Missouri State hit .441 with 17 kills in the second, leading 22-13 before holding off a late LUC charge.
Loyola had six blocks and forced the Bears to a negative attack efficiency in the third period, and Flynn took over late in the fourth, accounting for five consecutive MSU points from 19-16 to 24-18 before Lahr swatted the winning kill two points later.
Missouri State fell behind 5-2 in the fifth and never recovered. The Bears closed to 11-9 and Loyola rattled off a finishing 4-1 run behind 11 kills in the final period.
Cink had 10 digs for her 11th double-double of the year while reaching 20 kills for the fifth time. Flynn's offensive effort was the ninth 20-kill match of her career. The Bears hit .210 compared to .278 for the Ramblers.
Teagan Polcovich lifted 21 digs and
Azyah Green had six of MSU's 11 blocks in the Bears' eighth five-set match in 14 outings this season.
The series concludes at 2 p.m. Monday.
