CONWAY, Ark. – Missouri State's
Drake Baldwin and
Jaden Rolffs each hit grand slams Sunday afternoon to power the Bears to a 15-9 victory at Central Arkansas.
MSU's first game with two grand slams since 2016 started with Baldwin making it 4-0 just five batters into the contest on the way to a career-best six-RBI day for the sophomore, the first for Missouri State since
Jeremy Eierman drove in seven runs in a game against Cal State Northridge in March 2018.
Central Arkansas (3-4) scored in each of the first three innings to pull even at 4-4, with each scoring runner reaching via a walk, hit by pitch or error.
Missouri State (5-3) then blew the game open with an eight-run fourth, scoring all eight runs with two out.
Jack Duffy got things started with an RBI single to drive home
Blake Mozley and extend his hitting streak to nine games, then scored on an error before UCA pitching beaned the next four Missouri State batters to force home two more runs. Rolffs provided the final blow with his first career grand slam for a 12-4 lead.
Ben Whetstone made it 13-4 with an RBI single in the seventh, UCA answered with a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning, and Baldwin added an RBI triple in the eighth before scoring on a Mozley single for a 15-6 advantage.
Central Arkansas loaded the bases with nobody out in the eighth and scored one run on a ground out, then filled the bases with one out in the ninth and tacked on two more runs with a walk and an infield single for the 15-9 final.
Both starting pitchers left the game before the third inning, and
Logan Wiley (2-0) earned the win in relief for Missouri State, tossing 4.1 innings with three hits, two earned runs and five strikeouts.
Duffy,
Dakota Kotowski, Baldwin and Mozley each recorded two-hit games for MSU, while Baldwin and
Grant Wood scored three times each. In all, nine Missouri State hitters logged a hit and touched home plate on the way to MSU's highest run total since April 3, 2019.
Missouri State continues its four-game swing through the Natural State with a March 9-10 series at Arkansas State, with first pitch set for 5 p.m. Tuesday and 3 p.m. Wednesday.
