Box Score TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Missouri State overcame a 2-1 deficit at Indiana State Saturday, rallying for the 25-23, 18-25, 19-25, 25-21, 15-12 victory behind career highs of 26 kills and 19 digs from
Brooklyn Cink.
Amelia Flynn (18),
Lindsay Lahr (10) and
Azyah Green (10) gave the Bears (14-6, 10-5 Missouri Valley Conference) four players with double figure kill totals. The defense added 99 digs, MSU's highest total since September 2018, with
Teagan Polcovich at 25 leading five players with at least 14.
"I'm really proud of our squad for gutting this one out," said head coach
Steven McRoberts. "Our ladies have a 'never give up' attitude and it paid off in the fourth and fifth sets. Brooklyn had a monster game with 26 big kills and Teagan's 25 digs helped us produce our largest dig number all season."
Neither team led by more than two points in the first set and Green and Cink hit consecutive kills from a 23-23 tie for the 1-0 lead, and the Sycamores (7-11, 7-10) took the next two sets with a more consistent offensive effort than the Bears.
Cink took over with five kills in Missouri State's closing 8-2 run to the fourth set, then added four more kills in the fifth, including two to help the Bears pull away from an 11-all tie.
Both of Missouri State's setters produced double-doubles, with
Kennedee Anderson posting 31 assists and a career-high 17 digs, and
Rylee Fay logging career highs of 20 assists and 15 digs.
The Bears led 67-61 in total kills, while ISU held slight leads in hitting percentage (.212-.190), digs (100-99) and blocks (7-6).
"Indiana State played really well and I know it will be another battle tomorrow," McRoberts added. "This is a great way for us to prepare for the MVC tournament next week!"
Tomorrow's rematch begins at 2 p.m. The Bears have secured a top four seed at next week's MVC Tournament, April 1-3 in Normal, Ill., and could still finish as high as second with a win Sunday. Tickets are
on sale now for the conference tournament.
