
Tennis Bears Close Out Non-Conference Slate with SBU

SPRINGFIELD – The Missouri State women's tennis team will finish non-conference play this Saturday when they host Southwest Baptist for a 10 a.m. tilt at Cooper Tennis Complex. Â

"It will be good to get one last home match before conference play starts," head coach Hannah Keeling said. "The weather should be nice, so we are going to have a good against Southwest Baptist. We are ready to be at home and get another match under our belt before conference."Â

Southwest Baptist is 9-5 on the season. The Bearcats are coming off a 4-3 win over the Montevallo back on March 19. SBU is lead by Diana Cabrera who is 11-2 in singles play on the season while playing in the 1-3 positions. In doubles play Cabrera and Lola Cincunegi (No. 3) and Dona Abohabaga and Constanca Crespo (No. 1) are both 6-3 on the season.Â

Last weekend the Bears split as they shutout UT Dallas 9-0 and fell to North Texas 4-3. Missouri State was dominant in its showing against UT Dallas as the Bears swept doubles play and with each MSU player sweeping their respective match. Â

In the recent MVC preseason poll, Missouri State was picked fifth while receiving 24 votes. Illinois State was the preseason favorite as the Redbirds received 45 votes and four first-place nods.Â

After Saturday's match, the Bears will open MVC play on April 3, when they host Bradley. Start time is set for 11 a.m. from Cooper Tennis Complex.Â
