Box Score DENTON, Texas – The Missouri State women's tennis team was defeated by North Texas 4-0 on Saturday afternoon.
 
"We had a tough match today against a good North Texas team," head coach Hannah Keeling said. "We had our chances today in singles play to turn things around. We need tough matches like this leading up to conference play."
 
The Mean Green defeated the Bears to gain the doubles point as Hana Sisirak and Alyson Piskulic (No. 1) and Mary Houston and Tiffani Nash (No. 3) both fell to the hosts by the score of 6-1. Ellie Burger and Claire Martin were up 5-1 over the Mean Green's Kexuan Zhou and Maria Ponomareva when their match was called due to UNT clinching the doubles point.
 
The Bears rested Burger in singles play. Therefore, everyone moved up a position in the singles matches.
 
In No. 1 singles, Hannah Sisirak was defeated by UNT's Maria Ponomareva 6-4, 6-2. In No. 3 singles, Nidhi Surapaneri of North Texas swept Taylor Shaw (6-1, 6-3). The Mean Green clinched the match in the No. 4 spot when Kexuan Zhou defeated Mary Houston 7-6, 6-2. 
 
Tiffani Nash (No. 2), Alyson Piskulic (No. 5) and Claire Martin (No. 6) all did not finish their matches as play was finished once North Texas clinched the match.
 
The Bears (5-8) will be back in action Saturday (March 27) when they host Southern Baptist at 1 p.m. to close out non-conference play.
