
Bears Claim Own Tournament Title, Hopkins Finishes Second

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Missouri State women's golf team cruised to the team title at its own tournament Tuesday (Mar. 16), winning the MSU Spring Invitational at Highland Springs Country Club by 28 shots. The Bears built a 26-stroke advantage Monday by posting 314-310 and then added another 310 in the final round for a 934 total.
Creighton finished second with 327-323-312--962, with Drake following in third at 324-334-310--968. Wichita State finished fourth with 976, followed by Valparaiso at 1011 and Omaha with 1014.
Haeri Lee of Drake claimed medalist honors, carding 75-78-75--228, one better than the Bears' Faith Hopkins. The sophomore from Bartlesville, Okla., posted 76-78-75--229 for her best collegiate finish. Sophomore Brooke Newell of MSU took third with 81-78-75--234, while five more Bears placed in the top 10. Sophomore Faith Belmear and freshman Kayla Pfitzner tied for seventh with 240 totals; Belmear shot 78-78-84 and Pfitzner 83-83-74, tying for low round of the day Tuesday.
Junior Bridget Schulte finished ninth after shooting 84-79-79--242, and sophomore Allison Bray and freshman Johanna Wollenhaupt tied for 10th with 243. Bray posted 81-83-79 and Wollenhaupt shot 86-76-81.
The Bears are idle next week before returning to action Mar. 29-30 at the Diane Daugherty Invitational in suburban St. Louis.
