JONESBORO, Ark. – The Missouri State women's tennis team dropped a hard-fought battle to Arkansas State, 3-4, Friday afternoon.
"Missed opportunities in doubles play hurt us at the start," head coach
Hannah Keeling said. "I have to give credit to
Tiffani Nash for stepping up and taking care of business at the No. 3 position today. We will look to channel this into our match tomorrow."
The Red Wolves secured the doubles point as they got wins in the No. 1 and 3 spots to grab the 1-0 lead early.
Hana Sisirak and
Alyson Piskulic were tied 3-3 in the No. 2 doubles match when it was called due to ASU clinching doubles play.
In No. 1 singles,
Ellie Burger was impressive in her return to the No. 1 singles spot as she swept ASU's Hunter Roper (7-5, 7-5).
Tiffani Nash continued her winning ways in the No. 3 spot with a sweep of ASU's Jill Morse (7-5, 6-3) , while
Taylor Shaw fell in the No. 4 spot to Shelby King (6-7, 0-6). MSU's
Alyson Piskulic was impressive in No. 5 singles defeating Nejla Zukic, 6-1, 6-3.
A-State's Yasmine Humbert defeated
Claire Martin in the No. 6 match, 7-5, 6-4, before the Red Wolves clinched the win with win at No. 2 singles by Thea Rice over,
Hana Sisirak, 6-2, 7-5.
The Bears (3-7) will be back in action Saturday (March 13), when they face Louisiana Tech at 9 a.m. in Jonesboro.
