Softball Bears Drop Weekend Finale to Omaha

CONWAY, Ark. – Missouri State softball fell 10-1 to Omaha in six innings in its final game of the Michelle Short Memorial Tournament here Saturday morning.

The Bears (6-3) finished their weekend in Conway, Ark. with a 3-2 record to cap a nine-game stretch in their first week of action.

A pair of four-run innings and a two-run sixth provided Omaha (3-6) the ammunition to take down an MSU squad that was reeling from three straight wins, including a 3-1 victory against the Mavericks yesterday.

By the time the Mavericks added their final two runs in the sixth, the contest was well in hand with the two RBI singles delivering MSU its largest setback of the season.

Omaha's Kamryn Meyer (2-2) kept the Bears lineup at bay, allowing two hits in her six innings of one-run ball.

Pinch-hitter Bailey Greenlee led off the bottom of the third with an infield single to give the Bears their first hit off of Meyer.  Daphne Plummer, who reached on a fielder's choice, stole her fifth base of the season to put MSU in scoring position.  After consecutive walks from Tess Weakly and Olivia Krehbiel loaded the bases, Plummer raced home on a wild pitch to score the Bears' lone run.

In the second, a bases-clearing double from Emily Klosterman followed by back-to-back singles propelled the Mavericks to jump out to a 4-0 lead.  Omaha hung another four-spot in the fourth inning with three of the runs coming on a Diana Murtha home run.

MSU drew six walks in the contest and Weakly's triple in the sixth inning was the Bears' fourth in three games.

Coming off a shutout performance in MSU's 2-0 win against Western Illinois, Dickerson (2-2) stumbled in her fourth start of the season.  The Bears used four pitchers in the game with Gracie Johnston, Jacie Taber, and Bailey Greenlee each making relief appearances.

Up next for Missouri State is a trip to Arlington, Texas to take part in the Boerner Invitational, hosted by UT Arlington on March 5-7.
