Stratton Named MVC Defensive Player of the Week

November 02, 2021

ST. LOUIS – Missouri State's Greg Stratton was selected as Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, the league announced Tuesday, Nov. 2.

He received the honor following MSU's wins over Drake and Bradley, where he helped anchor the Bears' defensive efforts resulting in two shutouts on Oct. 27 and Oct. 31. The strong backline has not allowed a goal in 436 minutes, recording four shutouts in the Bears' last four matches.

Stratton has been instrumental in the team's defensive success. The senior stayed on the pitch for 148 minutes of Missouri State's last two games, helping limit opportunities for opposing offenses. The senior defender was a key part of the backfield that limited Bradley to one shot attempt, thwarting the Braves efforts all game. He also added an assist on the Bears' third goal of the win over Bradley, helping set up the shot which extended MSU's lead to 3-0.

Next up for Missouri State, is its regular season finale against the Ramblers. The action begins at Loyola on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m.
