SPRINGFIELD – Missouri State blitzed visiting Indiana State over the final two-and-a-half sets Friday evening at Hammons Student Center for a come-from-behind 3-1 (25-27, 25-19, 25-8, 25-12) victory over the Sycamores.
With the win, Missouri State improved to 16-13 overall and 7-10 in Missouri Valley Conference play, securing a winning record for the 22nd time in the last 23 seasons. Indiana State fell to 16-11 and 8-9 in league play.
The Bears had a pair of set points in the opening period before ISU closed on a 3-0 run for the win, and the second set was tied at 11-all when Missouri State seized control and out-scored the Sycamores 64-28 for the rest of the match.
Brooklyn Cink had two kills in a 4-0 run to 15-11 in the second to kick start the momentum, and the Bears hit .421 with four aces and five blocks in a dominant third set.
It was more of the same in the fourth, with four different Bears recording three kills and the team hitting .389 to raise MSU's match efficiency to .264 compared to .043 for the Sycamores.
Senior
Amelia Flynn led the way offensively with 17 kills on .308 hitting to go along with a match-high 18 digs. Cink added 10 kills,
Maddy Bushnell had eight, and
Azyah Green and
Manuela Ibarguen finished with seven apiece.
Katie Wemhoener tallied a career-high 13 digs, Ibarguen equaled her career best with 17 digs, and Green had had seven of MSU's 12 blocks. Ibarguen also served three aces.
Missouri State led 55-40 in kills, 79-65 in digs, 12-5 in blocks and 6-5 in aces.
The Bears host Evansville (19-9, 9-8) at 5 p.m. Saturday in the season finale. MSU will recognize seniors
