ATLANTA – Missouri State Lady Bear sixth-year senior Brice Calip was one of 50 women's basketball players named to the 2022 Women's Jersey Mike's Naismith Awards Watch List, it was announced Tuesday, Nov. 9.
Calip was the only Missouri Valley Conference representative and was one of just 10 non-Power Five players to make the top 50 of the coveted list.
To begin her 2021-22 season, Calip played a team-high 34 minutes in the Lady Bears' season opener at Little Rock. She scored 15 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the floor and an 86 percent mark at the free throw line (6-of-7). Calip also snagged three steals and dished out three assists in the season-opening victory.
The Sapulpa, Okla., native ranked 10th in the nation and led the Missouri Valley Conference with a 2.82 assist-to-turnover ratio last season, after committing just 38 turnovers on the year. The senior guard is the reigning MVC Player of the Year and was selected by MVC media and coaches to repeat as the top player in the conference in 2021-22.
Calip led the Lady Bears last season with 13.3 points per game, 31.8 minutes per game, and 107 assists on the year. Calip is also a two-time first-team all-MVC and MVC All-Defensive team selection (2020, 2021). Last season, she racked up 100 defensive rebounds, 56 steals and 10 blocks on the defensive side of the ball.
The Lady Bears will be back in action against North Texas at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 14. at JQH Arena for the 2021-22 home opener.
