Quick Kicks
• On Oct. 2, head coach Jon Leamy achieved his 300th career win. The milestone makes him just the 21st active Division I coach to reach the mark. Leamy is in his 30th season as the Bears head coach, and will retire at the conclusion of the 2021 season. As it stands this season, he boasts an overall record of 300-188-66.
• MSU moved up to the No. 11 spot in the United Soccer Coaches poll this week. The Bears made their way back into the poll on Sept. 28 in 18th place after receiving votes for the three weeks prior. The seven-spot jump comes after MSU registered two additional conference wins last week over Drake and Bradley. The team is also No. 14 in College Soccer News' Top-30 poll and moved up to No. 12 in Top Drawer Soccer's Top-25 after sitting in 15th place last week in both.
• Ten Bears have played in all seven games for MSU this season. Kyle Hiebert has clocked the most minutes with 736 throughout the season so far. Josh Dolling is close behind with 709 minutes over seven games. Kian Yari and goalkeeper Michael Creek come in third and fourth with 658 and 630 minutes, respectively.
• Over nine games this season the Bears have tallied 18 total goals, just shy of the 20 they scored in the same number of games last season. MSU is spreading wealth, with 10 different Bears recording at least one goal through the first half of the season. Last season, the team also had a similar stat line, with 10 Bears finding the back of the net over their first nine games as well.
• Midfielder Kian Yari not only leads the MVC in assists, but his efforts have landed him in the top-20 in the nation. Yari No. 19 in the nation in assists per game (.556) and is sitting in the 21st spot in total assists doling out five over nine games.
Bears from Abroad
• The men's soccer team features a diverse group of men with players coming from all over the world to play for MSU. A total of 23 of the team's 25 players are international, while two are from the United States.
• For the first time since before 2006, MSU has a player from Chile on its roster for back-to-back years. Nicolas Torres comes from Linares, and is the first Chilean to play for the Bears in over 15 years. This is the senior's second season at MSU, joining the team at the start of the 2020-21 season.
Take a Look Ahead
Missouri State continues its three-game home slate when it hosts Kansas City on Oct. 12, at 6 p.m. Following that, the Bears will then take on MVC opponent SIU Edwardsville for the second time this season on Oct. 17.
