SPRINGFIELD – The Missouri State women's cross country team continues its season this weekend when it races at the MVC Cross Country Championships on Friday, Oct. 29. Illinois State is hosting the championships this year in Normal, Ill.  Â
The women will compete in a 6-kilometer race which is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Weibring Golf Club. The Bears will send their top-eight runners to represent MSU in the championships. Â
On Wednesday, Missouri State was picked to finish in seventh place at the championship race, while Loyola and Bradley were chosen by their peers to finish in the first and second positions, respectively. Â
"Regardless of the pre-championship poll, we know what we're capable of and are ready to go prove that," said head coach Jordan Fife.  Â
The MSU women are coming off a solid team finish at the Bradley Classic, where they had a chance to face many of their conference opponents in the team's first 6K of the season The Bears top finishers were Edna Dar and Sierra Williams coming in under five seconds apart. Their times of 22:09.4 and 22:13.0 were good for 56th and 62nd place out of 286 runners. Alex Hamre was the team's third finisher at the classic, with time of 22:26.0 for the first 6K race of her collegiate career. Shelby Palmer wasn't far behind, finishing two spots after Hamre with a new career best of 22:27.9. Missouri State's strength is in its depth, as its top-five runner's best 6K times are within 20 seconds of each other.   Â
Senior Adyson Delaney will also be racing for the Bears on Friday, making her return after missing the team's past three races.Â
"It'll be cold, rainy, and muddy, but none of that matters," continued Fife. "I have a lot of confidence in this group. They've worked extremely hard this fall and I can't wait to watch them compete tomorrow."Â Â Â
The Bears placed sixth at the 2020-21 MVC Championship held in March, with Dar pacing Missouri State with a 19th-place showing in 18:39.2.Â
