TUCSON, Ariz. – The Missouri State beach volleyball team put together another strong showing at the season-opening Cactus Classic Saturday, beating San Francisco 5-0 before dropping a 4-1 decision to 15th-ranked Arizona at Bear Down Beach.

Missouri State's No. 1 duo of Kelsey Larsen and Alaina Tinsley impressed once again, earning a pair of sweeps to go 4-0 on the weekend without allowing more than 18 points in any of their eight sets. The 4-0 start equals the longest win streak at the No. 1 spot in school history.

The Bears (2-2) quickly clinched the morning match against USF with sweeps in the top three pairs, including convincing wins from Kendra Sater and Chloe Tome in the No. 2 match and Arizona native Grace Cook and Rachel Tam in the third pair. Each duo gave up a total of 24 points in their two sets.

MSU dropped the first set in both the fourth and fifth flights but rallied to win, with Siena Brewster and Parker McAllen earning their third win of the weekend in the No. 4 match, and Pamela Jaime and Tory Penick posting a combined score of 36-17 in the final two sets of their season debut.

No. 15 Arizona secured a win after three completed matches in the afternoon before Larsen and Tinsley picked up their second straight victory against the Wildcats' top pair, while Cook and Tam went three sets in the No. 3 match before falling 15-11.

The Bears head to Miami next week for the FIU Beach Bash on Feb. 28 and 29 at Florida International University.
