Women’s Golf Starts Spring Season in Arizona

RIO VERDE, Ariz. – 
Missouri State women's golf started its spring season today (Feb 21) at the 18th Annual Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational in Rio Verde, Ariz. The team finished the tournament's first round tied for sixth place under sunny skies at the par-72 White Wing Golf Course at the Rio Verde Country Club.

Sophomore Faith Belmear carded a one-over par 73 to lead the Bears in the opening round followed by freshman Johanna Wollenhaupt (77) and sophomores Allison Bray (78), Brooke Newell (79) and Abby Cavaiani (82).

Junior Bridget Schulte, competing individually, recorded 76.

Defending tournament champion Xavier (297) sits on the top of the 17-team leaderboard, while Arkansas State (299) and Northern Illinois (302) place second and third, respectively. Rounding out the top-five are Ball State (305) and Seton Hall (306).

Missouri State women's golf looks to climb the leaderboard in the 54-hole event with 18 holes each tomorrow and Sunday. Live scoring is available on Golfstat.com.
