Cross Country Bears Set for Fall Finale at Little Rock
October 16, 2020 | Women's Cross Country
SPRINGFIELD – The Missouri State women's cross country team heads to Little Rock, Ark. on Saturday, Oct. 17 for its final meet of the year. The 5K race thru War Memorial Park will begin at 10:15 a.m. with nine teams set to compete alongside the Bears.
Â
Saturday's race marks the second competition for the Bears this year after opening the season with a seventh-place finish at the Cowboy Jamboree on Oct. 3.Â
The mid-October meet features a 10-team field with a total of six Division I teams including a Central Arkansas (9th) squad that finished two spots behind Missouri State (7th) in Stillwater, Okla.
"We're excited to get back out there and compete again on Saturday morning," said head coach Jordan Fife. "We have a chance for a high team finish which means we need to be aggressive and race with confidence. Our training has been going really well and the conditions should be perfect tomorrow, so we want to make the most of this opportunity for our last meet of the year."
Edna Dar and Grace Breiten led the way for the Bears at the Oklahoma State meet, finishing back-to-back in the top-35 at the competitive 6K race. The pair set 5K personal bests last season with Dar running an 18:03.4 at the Southern Stampede (Sept. 21, 2019) and Breiten with a 17:28.3 at the Chile Pepper Festival (Oct. 5, 2019).
Adyson Delaney, Sierra Williams, and Grace Murphy join Dar and Breiten as the returning scorers from the season opener scheduled to compete on Saturday. Delaney, a junior from Eureka, Mo., has been a staple on the Bears' scorecard the past two seasons after finishing third amongst MSU runners at the Cowboy Jamboree and scoring in all seven meets in 2019.Â
Williams (52) and Murphy (62) each chipped in points for the Bears in their collegiate debuts, marking respective 6K times of 23:41.2 and 23:52.6.
