CONWAY, Ark. – A pair of unanswered second-half scores by Central Arkansas proved to be the difference here Thursday as UCA turned back visiting Missouri State, 3-1, in MSU's first women's soccer match of the season.
After UCA's Sydney Brough put the home side on the board in the 12th minute for the only goal of the first half, Missouri State rallied early in the second stanza.
A yellow card on UCA gave MSU's Kennady Orlick the chance to score on a penalty kick. Orlick found the back of the net to tie the game, 1-1, in her first goal of the season.
However, In the 74th minute, Morgan Rollow connected with Brough for her second goal of the night to give the lead back to UCA, 2-1. Later, Bough assisted on the clinching goal, finding teammate Emma Hawkins in the 84th minute to secure the win for UCA.
"We started off slow, but we haven't played a game in a year," Missouri State head coach Rob Brewer said. "After our goal in the second half, we were just trying to get back into the game. They are a quality team, and we are looking forward to playing them again and getting to play them at home."
Missouri State's night was highlighted by 11 combined saves from keepers Hannah Peterson and Lexi Palacio. Offensively, the Bears took just four shots while controlling possession 42 percent of the contest.
Brewer's Bears return to Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium for their three remaining fall contests, starting on Thursday, Oct. 22 for a 6 p.m. rematch against UCA.
