Bears Continue Hot Start with 3-0 Win Against Roos

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Missouri State men's soccer (2-0-0) picked up a second straight road victory with a dominant 3-0 win over Kansas City (0-2-0) here Saturday night (Sept. 7).

Bears' freshmen Will Osgathorpe and Hugo Jonsson scored their first career goals for MSU, following up Josh Dolling's go-ahead goal in the first half.

"The team got off to a good start in the match and continued to get stronger as the game went along," said head coach Jon Leamy.  "It was truly a team effort win tonight with a lot of guys getting in and providing quality minutes for us."

Dolling opened up the scoring for the Bears in the 24th minute with his second goal of the season.  Stuart Wilkin sent a pass through the Roos' backline that found Dolling who slipped a shot past KC goalkeeper Filippo Errico to give the Bears an early 1-0 lead.

The Bears' attack controlled most of the first half as they held a 7-1 shot advantage through the first 45 minutes.  It was the second consecutive match for MSU recording seven shots in the first half of play.

Corner kicks proved to be successful for Missouri State in the second half, scoring a pair of goals off of set pieces to push the lead to 3-0.  Osgathorpe scored the second goal of the match on a header off of a corner kick from Jack Denton in the 63rd minute.  Jonsson followed up with a goal in the 83rd minute on a corner kick sent in again by Denton who tallied his second assist of the night.

The Bears combined to record 18 shots in the match against KC with Dolling (5), Wilkin (4), Jonsson (2), and Matt Bentley (2) each registering a multi-shot game for MSU.

The backline for MSU kept the Roos in check for most of the match, holding them to just three shots for the game.  It was the second straight shutout for the Bears who have held their opponents to a total of three shots on goal through the first two matches.

MSU returns to Springfield Tuesday to begin a three-match homestand against Central Arkansas at 7:00 p.m. from Betty & Bobby Allison South Stadium.
