SPRINGFIELD – After beginning the season with a 2-1 record at the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational, the Missouri State volleyball team makes its first road trip of the year Tuesday for a 6 p.m. match at Oral Roberts.
Scouting ORU
ORU went 2-1 during the season's opening weekend, losing 3-2 to Louisiana Tech before topping Prairie View A&M and Sam Houston State. The Golden Eagles are led by 2017 First-Team all-Summit League selection CeCe Madison, who is averaging 4.0 kills on .281 hitting through three matches. ORU is picked to finish fourth in the Summit League in 2019.
Series History
The Bears are 29-9 against Oral Roberts with six consecutive wins in the series. ORU's last victory came in 3-0 fashion the last time the teams met in Tulsa, back in 2006.
First Weekend Notables
Missouri State went 2-1 at the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational, beating Jacksonville and Southeast Missouri by 3-1 scores, and losing 3-2 to DePaul in between those matches…Sophomores led the way in kills (58 –
Amelia Flynn), assists (72 –
Chloe Rear), and digs (57 –
Leah Vokolek), while freshman
Azyah Green had a team-high 14 blocks…Flynn had 25 kills in the opener versus Jacksonville, her fourth career match with at least that many in 35 tries…Rear posted MSU's first triple-double since 2012 against DePaul (10 kills, 10 digs, 37 assists), and averaged 8.3 kills, 11 digs and 24 assists on a per match basis…The Bears served up 17 total aces and held opponents to a .135 attack efficiency.
