June 04, 2019

ST. LOUIS –  Missouri State junior outfielder Jack Duffy was the lone Bear selected to the Missouri Valley Conference's Baseball Scholar-Athlete Team, which was released Tuesday by the conference office.

Duffy, an honorable mention MVC Scholar-Athlete pick for the second-straight year, batted a team-best .305 for the season to earn second-team All-MVC honors. The Kansas City native led the Bears in hitting, on-base percentage (.392), hits (60), doubles (13) and walks (29) and recorded a team-high 17 multi-hit games, five of which occurred during a career-best 12-game hit streak to conclude the season (May 4-23).

During MVC play, Duffy hit .341 and ranked among Valley's top 10 hitters in batting (.341), on-base percentage (.429), hits (28), doubles (6), runs scored (18), walks (13) and total bases (43). He also logged a .980 overall fielding percentage, with four outfield assists and just three errors in 151 total chances, primarily in center field.

Duffy, an advertising and promotion major who maintains a 3.72 GPA, has been named to MVC's Academic Honor Roll each of the last two seasons, earning the Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award last year.

To qualify for consideration for the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team, players must have a minimum 3.20 grade-point average and be a starter or key reserve. The team is voted on each year by the league's eight sports information directors.
