Fati Khamissi and junior
Alye Darter each garnered a spot on the 2019 Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete team, as announced by the league Thursday.
A three-time MVC Scholar-Athlete mention, Khamissi landed on the first team for the second-straight year. She collected MVC Singles Player of the Week earlier this month after posting a spotless 2-0 record against UNI and Drake opening weekend of league play. Her nine singles decisions this spring is the third highest on the team. In the fall, Khamissi won the No. 3 singles title at the MVC Individual Championship.
The Rabat, Morocco native holds a 3.77 GPA in cell and molecular biology.
Picking up her second MVC Scholar-Athlete honorable mention plaudit, Darter played a key role in doubles for the Bears, ranking third on the team with nine decisions. She holds a winning record in the first and third doubles flights this spring.
Darter holds a 3.74 GPA in communication science and disorders. She earned the Elite 17 award last year for her academic efforts.
The criterion for the honor parallels the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for Academic All-America voting. Nominees must have participated in at least 75% of the regular-season matches or be projected to play in the MVC Championship, with at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA (on a 4.00 scale).
