NORTHRIDGE, Calif. -- Missouri State's beach volleyball team picked up a pair of victories by a combined score of 9-1 Wednesday afternoon, topping Cal State Northridge, 4-1, for the school's first ever victory against Division I competition, and sweeping all five pairs from Vanguard at the Matador Beach Volleyball Complex.

The Bears (3-5) rattled off four consecutive wins against CSUN after the Matadors claimed the No. 2 match, tying the score thanks to a straight-set win from Mikaela Mosquera and Ivy Reynolds in the No. 4 flight, and taking the lead after Sydney LeMay and Sam Brinkmann won in three sets in the third slot.

MSU clinched the match with its first No. 1 victory of the season, as Julia Hanson and Chloee McDaniel claimed a 15-8 win in the third set, and Bentley Mara and Sarah Demmer followed by rallying for a three-set win in the fifth slot.

Missouri State then avenged a loss from a day earlier by sweeping Vanguard in the second match of the day. The Bears won all five matches against the Lions in straight sets, and LeMay and Brinkmann tied a school record with their fifth consecutive victory as a pair.

The Bears visit ninth-ranked Long Beach State at 4 p.m. Thursday.
