SPRINGFIELD – The Missouri State women's tennis team will open its home spring schedule with a doubleheader against Western Illinois and Creighton at Cooper Tennis Complex on Friday, Feb. 8 at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.
 
Missouri State's match versus Creighton was originally scheduled for 7 p.m., but was moved to 6 p.m. Both matches will take place on the indoor courts.

In their first match of the spring, the Bears completed a dramatic 4-3 comeback victory over SIU Edwardsville to begin the season 1-0.
 
After falling behind 3-1 in singles action, Missouri State, fueled with a pair of tight three-set decisions from Anna Alons (6-4, 3-6, 6-3) and Ellie Burger (6-3, 3-6, 6-3), closed the gap and tied the match 3-3.

Freshman Clara Gandara Gonzalez solidified the comeback 4-3 victory for the Bears, defeating her SIUE opponent in a dominant 6-1, 6-4 fashion.
 
The tandem of Alons and Burger secured the Bears' lone doubles point, cruising to a 6-1 decision. Their effort earned them Missouri Valley Conference doubles team of the week.
 
Missouri State defeated Western Illinois, 5-2, during the 2017 season. Alye Darter, Fati Khamissi, and Phoebe Boeschen each earned singles victories in the win. It improved the series record to 6-4, favoring the Bears.
 
While the Bears fell to Creighton last year on the road, they still hold the 18-6 series edge.
 
These two matches commence a four-game home stand for the Bears, and they will face SEMO and Omaha next weekend.
