KANSAS CITY – The Missouri State women's tennis team (4-2) suffered their first road loss of the season to UMKC (3-5) Friday afternoon.
Alye Darter and
Mara Presot were the lone doubles winners, prevailing against their UMKC opponents 6-3. The Bears would drop the other two matches to allow UMKC to take the early 1-0 edge.
In singles action, Darter (6-4, 6-7, 5-7) and
Fati Khamissi (1-6, 6-1, 3-6) each battled in three sets, but both fell just shy. In the fourth flight,
Phoebe Boeschen fell in a close 3-6, 3-6 match.
"Tough loss today and one that was an absolute battle," said head coach
Mallory Weber. "We have to have a quick memory and get back at it tomorrow."
The Bears will continue their road trek with a stop in Columbia to face Missouri tomorrow at 5 p.m.
