SPRINGFIELD – The Missouri State women's tennis team (4-1) suffered its first loss of the season to SEMO (2-3), falling 4-0 Sunday afternoon at Cooper Tennis Complex.
Alye Darter and
Mara Presot were the lone doubles winners, downing their SEMO opponents 6-2. The Bears would drop the other two matches to allow SEMO to take the early 1-0 advantage.
"It was a tough weekend, credit to SEMO for playing strong," said head coach
Mallory Weber. "We came out a bit flat against a good team and it was hard to recover."
In singles action, Darter (6-4, 1-6, 2-6) and
Anna Alons (3-6, 6-3, 5-7) each battled in three-sets, but both fell just short. In the second flight,
Fati Khamissi dropped a pair of close 6-7, 2-6 sets.
Missouri State heads out on the road to Kansas City, Mo. to face UMKC on Friday, Feb. 22.
