ST. LOUIS – After going 2-0 in doubles play in a Friday doubleheader, Missouri State women's tennis pair Anna Alons and Ellie Burger earned their second Missouri Valley Conference doubles team of the week recognition, as announced by the league Tuesday.
 
Alons and Burger claimed two doubles victories, Friday, to help the Bears to a 3-0 ledger on the young season, earning wins against Western Illinois and Creighton. 
 
In the early match, the pair earned a dominant 6-1 win against the Leathernecks in the first flight, playing a crucial role in Missouri State taking the doubles point.
 
Later that day, Alons and Burger would outplay Creighton, once again winning in the No. 1 spot, this time by a 6-2 margin. Missouri State would go on to slip past the Bluejays, 4-3, to remain undefeated.  
 
The 3-0 mark to start the season is a first for the program since its reinstatement.
 
Missouri State will resume its home stand Friday at Cooper Tennis Complex, where they will host Omaha at 7 p.m.
