MVFC Release

ST. LOUIS – A pair of Missouri State standouts have earned a spot on the Missouri Valley Football Conference All-Academic Team, the league announced Wednesday.

Senior quarterback Peyton Huslig (Andover, Kan.) and sophomore kicker Parker Lacina (Platte City, Mo.) represent the Bears on this year's team with Huslig earning first-team distinction and Lacina landing on the honorable mention list.

Huslig is one of 13 first-team selections from the 10-team league and was named to the elite list of league academic standouts for the third time in as many seasons. He was named as an all-conference quarterback earlier this week with honorable mention laurels after finishing second in the Valley in passing yards per game (210.1) and completions per game (20.8). He finished the 2019 campaign 229-for-399 for 2,311 yards passing with 16 touchdowns. He started 33 straight games for the Bears in his career and wrapped his time in Springfield after compiling 6,405 passing yards and 7,465 yards of total offense.

He has a 3.71 GPA in Cell & Molecular Biology and was part of the MVFC All-Academic Team and MVFC Honor Roll in 2017 and 2018. Huslig also earned the MVFC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award in 2018.

Lacina led Bears in scoring for the second year in a row, posting 42 total points, including 15-of-17 successful extra points. He was also 9-of-14 (.643) on field goal tries with a long kick of 45 yards. Lacina ranked fourth in the Valley with nine field goals made, including three successful kicks at Northern Arizona in the season opener.

The sophomore has a 3.60 GPA in Business / Supply Chain Management. He was also on the 2018 MVFC Honor Roll and MSU Athletic Director's Honor Roll for both the fall and spring semesters.

Earlier this week, the Bears had six players recognized on the All-MVFC list with first-team picks McNeece Egbim (Sr., LB, Rowlett, Texas) and Chandler Collins (Sr., LS Springfield, Mo.), second-team honoree Brendan Withrow (Sr., P Imperial, Mo.), and honorable mention selections Huslig (Sr., QB, Andover, Kan.), Matt McClellan (Sr., DE, Ferguson, Mo.) and Tyler Currie (Sr., WR, Cordova, Tenn.).
