SPRINGFIELD – Behind a season-high 71 kills and
Chloe Rear's third triple-double of the season, the Missouri State volleyball team out-lasted visiting Indiana State in five sets Friday evening at Hammons Student Center.
Laynie Dake led four Bears in double figures with a season-high 17 kills on .316 hitting, freshman
Brooklyn Cink reached double digits for the first time in her career with 14,
Amelia Flynn added 13 and Rear finished with 12 to go with 36 assists and 17 digs to join
Carly Thomas (2012) as the only MSU players with three triple-doubles in a season since 1989.
Rear hit back-to-back kills to close out an extra-time win in the first set, and the Bears (5-16, 2-5 Missouri Valley Conference) got six kills from Dake and 19 total in the second period on the way to the 27-25, 25-22, 20-25, 19-25, 15-9 victory.
The Sycamores (3-14, 1-6) would not go down without a fight, using a late 4-0 run to break open the third set, and an 8-2 spurt in the fourth to push the match to its limit.
The Bears never trailed in the fifth, leading 9-5 on a Flynn kill before ISU rallied to a 9-8 score. Cink stepped up with a solo block to cap a 3-0 run at 12-8, then hit back-to-back kills for 14-9 as Missouri State had 10 kills without an error in the final period. The Sycamores' final attack landed out of bounds to clinch the MSU win.
Senior

Leah Vokolek added 15. Dake finished with four blocks, Rear and Vokolek each served a pair of aces, and the Bears hit .203 as a team.
