CHICAGO – Missouri State's volleyball team fell by a 3-0 final to one of the Missouri Valley Conference's two remaining unbeaten squads Saturday afternoon, as Loyola won by set scores of 25-14, 25-17, 25-21 inside Gentile Arena.
The Ramblers (13-6, 6-0 MVC) hit .363 and held the Bears (4-16, 1-5) to a .084 attack efficiency. MSU sophomore Leah Vokolek recorded her 500th career dig in the contest, Amelia Flynn paced the offense with eight kills, and Azyah Green had three blocks.
Loyola hit .379 in the first set and used a pair of 6-0 runs to grow its lead to 19-8 before holding the 11-point lead to the final score.
Green had a strong start to the second set with two blocks and a kill to a 7-6 lead, and the Bears led 9-8 when Loyola countered with a 7-1 run to take the lead for good. The Bears got as close as 17-15 before the Ramblers pulled away.
Each team owned a three-point lead before either scored 10 points in the third set, but the score tightened up from there and was tied at 11-all on a Vokolek ace. The Ramblers ran out to a 17-13 lead, and the Bears closed within a point on three occasions but never broke even despite 11 kills on .235 hitting in the period.
Loyola finished with leads of 43-26 in kills and 52-31 in digs. Each team had five service aces.
