CHARLESTON, ILL. – Two doubles pairs and four individuals advanced for the Missouri State women's tennis team on Friday's opening rounds of the Eastern Illinois Fall Invitational held at the EIU Fieldhouse.
 
Veteran pair Ellie Burger and Alye Darter recorded dominant victories against Eastern Michigan and IUPUI to claim a spot in Saturday's flight A doubles final. In the first match, they nearly swept EMU, 6-1, and continued the momentum to a 7-5 decision in the second round.
 
Susan Salinas and Alexia Meyer prevailed in the flight B doubles circuit, clinching a 6-4 win over IUPUI before moving on to defeat EMU, 6-3, securing their own spot in the finals.
 
Four individual wins punctuated the Bears' opening day effort, as Darter, Claire Martin, Alyson Piskulic, and Mara Presot advanced to Saturday's singles semifinals.
 
Darter and Piskulic each defeated their EIU and IUPUI opponents by an 8-5 margin in the first round. Newcomer Martin cruised to an 8-3 win while Presot blanked EMU 8-0.
 
The Bears resume competition tomorrow at 9 a.m.
