Busy Week Ahead for Volleyball with Trips to K-State, Texas A&M

After dropping only one set on the way to winning the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational at home last week, the Missouri State volleyball team (3-3) embarks on a busy four-day road trip, beginning with a 6 p.m. Tuesday contest at Kansas State. The Bears then travel to College Station, Texas, to face Nicholls State at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Pepperdine at 1 p.m. Friday and Texas A&M at 7 p.m. Friday in the Texas A&M Invitational.
    Missouri State's seven-match road trip concludes Sept. 14-15 at the Husker Invite hosted by defending national champion Nebraska.

The Opponents
Kansas State is 4-1 overall, including a pair of wins at Hawai'i and another over Western Kentucky. The Wildcats are picked to finish fifth in the Big 12 this season, and have posted an impressive .276 team hitting percentage through five matches with averages of 14.53 kills, 14.24 digs, 2.41 blocks and 1.29 aces per set.
    Nicholls is 2-5 on the year with wins against Grambling and Mississippi Valley State. The Colonels are expected to finish 12th in the Southland Conference this season.
    Pepperdine placed fourth in the West Coast Conference poll, and features preseason all-WCC selection Hannah Frohling at outside hitter. The Waves are 4-2 on the year with losses to Cal Poly and Pittsburgh, and boast a .311 attack efficiency with averages of 15.4 kills, 15.9 digs, 1.1 aces and 1.6 blocks per set.
    Texas A&M is 4-2 on the year with its only losses coming at Ohio State and Penn State. The Aggies are picked eighth in the SEC this year, and are led early on by Hollann Hans, who averages 5.05 kills per set on .308 hitting. As a team, A&M hits .251 with averages of 14.1 kills, 14.4 digs, 1.65 blocks and 1.3 aces per set.

Series Histories
Kansas State leads MSU 15-9 in the all-time series with seven straight wins. The teams met in four consecutive seasons from 2011-14, with two of those matches going to five sets.
    MSU and Nicholls and never met in volleyball. The Bears are 20-6 against current members of the Southland Conference.
    Missouri State is 1-4 against Pepperdine, with the win coming by a 3-1 score in Malibu last season.
    The Bears are 9-7 versus Texas A&M, though only one meeting has a occurred in the last decade, an MSU sweep in Springfield in 2010.

Last Week
Missouri State won the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational at home, sweeping Oral Roberts and Grambling before defeating Mid-American Conference West Division favorite Ball State, 3-1. 
    Aubrey Cheffey earned tournament MVP honors with averages of 3.00 kills and 1.11 blocks to go with a .397 hitting percentage. She established career highs of 18 kills and six blocks against Ball State, and was joined on the all-tournament team by Laynie Dake and Chloe Rear.
    Senior Emily Butters became the 10th player in MVC history with 2,000 career digs, and tied a pair of school records with her 101st career match with 10-plus digs and fifth match with 30 or more.
