Manhattan, Kan. – A total team effort from the Missouri State women's soccer team (6-4) punctuated by defender
Brittney Robinson's game-winning header at the 62-minute mark secured the 1-0 shutout win against Kansas State here Friday night.
The Bears battled throughout the match, holding K-State (3-3-2) scoreless on its home turf for the first time in the Wildcats program history.
K-State had 23 chances at the net, but the spectacular performance from the Bears' defense stifled the Wildcats' scoring opportunities. The performance was led by goalkeeper
Kaitlin Maxwell, as she fell just shy of another double figure save performance with nine crucial grabs in the contest.
Missouri State showed its offensive resilience when Robinson knocked in the header off a corner kick from midfielder
Jacqueline Baetz to put the Bears ahead 1-0 at the 62-minute mark. The shot was the first for the Bears' during the contest, but proved to be enough to claim Missouri State's second straight victory over the Wildcats.
Brooke Prondzinski threatened again at the 85-minute mark, but her shot sailed just wide in what would be Missouri State's second and final shot of the night.
Gaining momentum off the score, the Bears stuffed K-State's remaining attempts at the net to walk away with the 1-0 shutout as the final buzzer sounded.
"The team showed determination and delivered an outstanding performance," said Head Coach
Rob Brewer. "The backline battled the entire game and Kaitlin made some amazing saves, the toughness the team displayed is in indicator of how we will continue to play the rest of the season."
The Bears will embark to Tulsa, Okla. to face Oral Roberts on Sunday, Sept. 16 beginning at 1 p.m.
