The Missouri State volleyball team makes its home debut this weekend when it hosts the annual Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational at Hammons Student Center. The Bears open with Oral Roberts at 7 p.m. Friday, and play Grambling State and Ball State at 12:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, respectively.
   Friday's contest opens a stretch of seven matches in eight days for the Bears, who visit Kansas State on Sept. 4 and play three matches at the Texas A&M Invitational Sept. 6-7. MSU's challenging non-conference schedule concludes Sept. 14-15 at the Husker Invite hosted by defending national champion Nebraska.
The Opponents
Oral Roberts is 1-2 on the year with a win over North Florida and losses to Wyoming and No. 15 Colorado. The Golden Eagles are picked to finish fifth in the Summit League. ORU hits .144 as a team compared to .239 for opponents with averages of 12 kills, 11.55 digs, 2.27 blocks and 0.45 aces per set.
   Grambling suffered losses to Kent State, Northeastern and Nicholls State during the opening weekend of the season. The Lady Tigers are expected to finish sixth in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, and boast a pair of preseason first-team all-conference selections. GSU owns a .127 attack efficiency while allowing a .248 mark, and averages 9.6 kills, 9.5 digs, 1.4 blocks and 1.3 aces per set.
   Ball State is 2-1 with wins against South Alabama and Marshall and a loss at Dayton. The Cardinals are the preseason pick to win the Mid-American Conference West Division with a pair of all-conference selections. The Cardinals hit .231 as a team in the opening weekend and allowed a .235 efficiency with averages of 12.25 kills, 14.08 digs, 1.42 blocks and 1.75 aces per set.
Series Histories
Missouri State owns a 28-9 series lead against Oral Roberts, winning the last five meetings. The Bears topped the Golden Eagles in four sets in the 2015 Wynn Invitational.
   Saturday will be the first meeting between MSU and Grambling State. The Bears are 4-0 all-time against current members of the SWAC.
   The Bears are 2-1 against Ball State, with only one match since 1982, a five-set MSU win in 2014 in Madison, Wis.Â
