SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – After a strong weekend of play in home matches, Missouri State swept the Missouri Valley Conference weekly tennis honors, the league announced on Tuesday.
Sophomore
Alye Darter was named Singles Player of the Week while the team of junior
Phoebe Boeschen and senior
Anelisse Torrico Moreno earned Doubles Team of the Week honors.
Darter went 3-0 this weekend at No. 1 singles against opponents from UNI, Drake and William Woods. Against UNI's Gisela Kemper, Darter battled back to collect a three-set victory 2-6, 7-5, 6-2.
After trading the first two sets with Drake's Summer Brills, Darker picked up the third set for the win, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. Wrapping up the weekend against William Woods, the Rogers, Ark., native, sped through a straight-set, 6-1, 6-0, win over WWU's Karyna Sagalai. Darter wrapped up the spring regular season with a 9-9 record and a 3-2 record in league matches at No. 1 singles.
Boeschen and Torrico Moreno teamed up to go 2-0 this weekend at No. 2 doubles. In their match against UNI's Harri Proudfoot and Valentia Caro, the pair picked up the Bears first doubles point with a 6-1 win. The duo also secured the first doubles win against Drake, defeating Summer Brills and Megan Webb, 6-2.
Missouri State, host of the 2018 MVC Team Tennis Championship, will take on Bradley at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 27 at Cooper Tennis Complex. Admission is free to all fans.
