SPRINGFIELD– The Missouri State women's tennis team welcomes Valparaiso University to Cooper Tennis Complex on Saturday, April 14 for the squads' first-ever match up. First serve for the Missouri Valley Conference contest is set for 1 p.m.
The Bears are led by junior
Fati Khamissi with an 10-4 record at No. 4 singles, while fellow junior
Phoebe Boeschen has put together a 7-7 record at in No. 3 singles contests. At No. 2 doubles, Boeschen and senior
Anelisse Torrico Moreno have tallied an 8-4 spring record. Darter and freshman
Ellie Burger are currently 7-5 at No. 1 doubles for MSU.
Missouri State (8-6, 1-1 MVC) opened league play last weekend in Illinois. The Bears defeated Bradley 4-3 on April 7 in Peoria, then fell 4-3 to Illinois State on April 8 in Bloomington. In both matches, MSU battled back in singles action after dropping the doubles point to the home squads. Moreno went 2-0 at No. 2 singles for the Bears, moving to 6-8 on the season, while Khamissi also picked up two three-set victories her No. 4 singles matches.
Valparaiso (5-11, 0-2) hosted Drake and Northern Iowa to open MVC action last weekend. The Crusaders fell to the Bulldogs, 7-0, and Panthers, 4-3, to close out their home schedule.
Missouri State will close out the rest of the season at Cooper Tennis Complex, hosting UNI on Saturday, April 21 at 1 p.m. On Sunday, April 22, the Bears will take on Drake at 10 a.m. on Senior Day, and then face William Woods at 2 p.m.
Missouri State will also host the 2018 MVC Tennis Championship at Cooper Tennis Complex on April 27-29. Admission is free all three days of the event.
