COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Missouri State suffered a pair of beach volleyball losses to South Carolina schools Friday at the Palmetto Invitational, falling 3-2 to Coastal Carolina and 4-1 to 20th-ranked College of Charleston at Wheeler Beach on the University of South Carolina campus.

The Bears (7-8) fell behind 2-0 against CCU in the opener before Lynsey Wright and Ivy Reynolds picked up their team-high ninth win of the year in the No. 5 match. 

MSU knotted the score at 2-2 with a win in the third flight, as Kelsey Larsen made her season debut by joining Julia Hanson for a straight-set win. The Chanticleers tilted the match in their favor with a win in the No. 1 contest with a pair that included four-time indoor volleyball conference player of the year Taylor Hardeman.

Missouri State's top pair of Taylor Fricano and Veronica Snelling rebounded with a 15-13 third-set win in the No. 1 flight against College of Charleston in the afternoon. The No. 20 Cougars (14-7) clinched the victory by winning the first three completed matches, then needed three sets to dispatch MSU in the No. 5 match before the Bears finished with a victory in the top spot.

The Bears wrap up the season Saturday with matches at 8 a.m. against 19th-ranked Tulane and noon versus No. 9 South Carolina. The USC match can be seen on ESPN3.
