SANTA MONICA, Calif. -- The Missouri State beach volleyball team finished its 11-match trip through California Saturday, falling by 5-0 finals to No. 2 UCLA and 16th-ranked Loyola Marymount before bouncing back to end the afternoon with a 4-1 victory against Colorado Mesa at Ocean Park Beach.

The Bears were unable to win a set against the second-ranked Bruins (12-3) in the opener, and took LMU (6-5) to a third set in both the Nos. 2 and 4 flights in the day's second match.

MSU rallied to even its season record at 6-6 with an impressive performance against Colorado Mesa, beginning with Taylor Fricano and Veronica Snelling rolling to a 15-13, 15-9 sweep in the No. 1 match. 

Also against the Mavericks, MSU's No. 3 pair of Mikaela Mosquera and Sam Brinkmann, the No. 4 team of Sarah Demmer and Caroline Finnell, and the No. 5 duo of Lynsey Wright and Ivy Reynolds, were all victorious to maintain a share of the team lead with seven wins apiece.

Missouri State makes it home debut Thursday at 3 p.m. against Ottawa College. The match takes place at the Betty & Bobby Allison Sand Volleyball Courts on the northeast corner of Holland Ave. and Bear Boulevard.
