SPRINGFIELD– The Missouri State women's tennis team returns to Cooper Tennis Complex this weekend, playing host to in-state rival Southeast Missouri State on Friday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. and Northeastern State on Saturday at 12 p.m.
The Bears, 2-1 on the season, are coming off a tough road weekend in Nebraska. MSU prevailed last Friday 4-3 over Omaha after UNO picked up the doubles point. Junior
Phoebe Boeschen captured the victory for Missouri State at No. 3 singles match with a 7-5, 6-7(4), 6-2 win.
Missouri State suffered a 7-0 set back the next day to Creighton. Sophomore
Alexia Meyer and Boeschen both forced tie-breaker sets, but were unable to pick up the win in their respective singles matches.
SEMO (2-2) heads to Springfield on a two-match winning streak. The Redhawks collected 4-3 victories over Bradley and NIU two weekends ago. SEMO's Kseniya Zonova collected Ohio Valley Conference weekly honors for her strong play at No. 1 doubles and No. 3 singles in those matches.
NSU, No. 16 in the Jan. 17 ITA Division II Women's Tennis National Team poll, heads to Springfield with a 1-1 record. The RiverHawks postponed their home opener on Tuesday due to winter weather in Oklahoma.
In the fall, the Bears faced both squads at the UCA Fall Invitational on Sept. 22-23. Senior
Anelisse Torrico Moreno defeated SEMO's Isabella Krumpa 6-1, 6-3. Sophomore
Alye Darter and freshman
Ellie Burger picked up a 6-2 doubles victory over Kseniya Zonova and Anais Emelie.
Against NSU, doubles duo of Boeschen and Torrico Moreno collected two of the Bears' three victories in doubles matches. Boeschen also went 1-1 against NSU opponents in singles action.
