
Five Goals Boosts Soccer Bears into MVC Semifinal

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – No. 4 Missouri State men's soccer team moves on in the 2018 Missouri Valley Conference Championship, after scoring five unanswered goals, taking down Evansville 5-2, Wednesday evening at Arad McCutchan Stadium. The Bears advance to their third straight tournament semifinal and forth in the last five years.
Evansville started the scoring off early, netting the first two goals at the 1-minute mark and the 23-minute mark respectively.
After that the Bears would take control of the match, scoring a season high five goals, including back to back goals by Stuart Wilkin and Greg Stratton. The Bears five goals are the most in a MVC soccer championship since 2002 and the most scored by a MSU team since 2011.
Wilkin's goal came at the 34-minuite mark, off an assist from Conor Ingram, who bounced the ball back to Wilkin for the score.
Stratton quickly followed up the advantage with the equalizer, 21 seconds later off an assist from Dylan De Jong.
Scoring the team's third goal in nine minutes, Harry Lewis broke open the tie before the teams headed to halftime. Lewis netted his second goal of the season off of a double assist by Jake Buckle and Dan Edwards.
The five goals between the two squads heading into the break, marked the highest scoring first half in MVC tournament history.
Coming out of the locker room both teams battled, each recording two shots in the first 10 minutes of the second half.
Ingram added to the scoring at the 59-minute mark with a line drive shot to goal from 15 yards out, off an assist from Josh Dolling.
A foul in the box set up a penalty kick opportunity for the Bears, taken by Dolling. Dolling netted his 10th goal of the season and put the game out of reach for Evansville.
The Bears will advance to take on No. 1 Central Arkansas on Friday at 6 p.m. in the semi-finals of the 2018 MVC Soccer Championship, hosted in Evansville, Ind.
