SPRINGFIELD -- Missouri State's women's basketball team wrapped up exhibition play Sunday afternoon with a 100-54 victory against visiting Lincoln University inside JQH Arena.
Alexa Willard scored a game-high 22 points on 8-of-10 shooting in just 13 minutes of action, while freshman forwards
Dariauna Lewis (17) and
Jasmine Franklin (12) joined her in double figures while combining to shoot 12-of-15 from the floor and grab 12 rebounds.
The Lady Bears scored 100 points for the first time in any game - regular season or exhibition - since December 2011, finishing 36-for-60 from the field and 25-for-35 at the free throw line. MSU owned a 50-22 rebounding edge and handed out 23 assists compared to 15 turnovers.
In all, 12 of the 13 Lady Bears in uniform scored, all 13 grabbed a rebound, and 10 had an assist. No one played more than 21 minutes.
Missouri State jumped ahead 19-3 in the first seven-plus minutes and never trailed, building a 53-20 lead after shooting 77 percent from the floor in the second quarter.
MSU's lead never dipped below 31 points in the second half, and MSU began the fourth period with its five freshmen on the floor together. The Lady Bear rookies out-scored the Blue Tigers 9-0 over 2:15 of court time, ending with an 89-42 lead.
In addition to MSU's three double-figure stories, five Lady Bears scored between six and nine points.
Emily Gartner grabbed eight rebounds,
Danielle Gitzen dished out five assists, and
Mya Bhinhar added four helpers without a turnover.
The Lady Bears begin the regular season on Sat., Nov. 10, with a 2 p.m. game at Wichita State.
