Beshore Lands Spot on Academic All-District Team

November 15, 2018

SPRINGFIELD – Missouri State senior strong safety Jared Beshore (Lamar, Mo.) has been selected to the CoSIDA District VI Academic All-District Team for the third consecutive season, the organization announced Thursday.

Beshore, who earned first-team CoSIDA all-district honors in 2016 and 2017, is the Bears' fourth-leading tackler with 58 stops heading into the Bears' season finale at UNI on Saturday. He also has a team-high three interceptions during the 2018 campaign and seven for his career. A 2015 MVFC All-Newcomer Team honoree and a 2016 and 2017 MVFC All-Academic Team pick.

The Bears' co-captain has started 35 games in his career, including all 10 this season. He had nine total tackles at South Dakota on Oct. 6 for a season high. He has also brought down eight ball carriers three times this season – in the home win over No. 20 Northern Arizona (Sept. 15), in the win at Indiana State (Oct. 13) and in last week's game against No. 1 North Dakota State (Nov. 10). His 228 career tackles ranks him as the program's second-highest active defender, just behind McNeece Egbim's 231 career stops.

With his All-District selection, Beshore now advances to the Academic All-America ballot, which will be voted upon by a special national panel with winners announced in December. To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials and at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) in both undergrad and graduate work. Student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their current institution and must have completed at least one full academic year at that institution. District VI includes all Division I schools from the states of Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

The Bears (4-6, 2-5 MVFC) will conclude the 2018 season Saturday at 4 p.m. against Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
