MVC Championship Central | Individual Draws | Final Results
 
SPRINGFIELD – Senior Fati Khamissi and freshman Clara Gandara Gonzalez prevailed in their respective flights to help the Missouri State women's tennis team come away with a pair of individual titles as play concluded at the Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championships on Sunday.
 
"I'm very proud of how we competed this weekend," said head coach Mallory Weber. "It's a great accomplishment to win two individual conference titles, and I feel that the team competed at a high level, which will help heading into regionals."
 
Gandara Gonzalez was the first to secure an individual laurel for the Bears, defeating Bradley's Nicola Perlwitz 6-3, 6-1 to become the top finisher in the No. 5 bracket.
 
"It was nice to get the win today," said Gandara Gonzalez. "As a freshman I hope to continue to improve as the season continues."
 
Khamissi's match advanced to three sets in the second flight, where she beat out Stony Brooks' Sasha Bekirova 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 to earn her title.
 
The dual wins marked Gandara Gonzalez and Khamissi's first MVC Individual honors.
 
Missouri State saw four advance to the final rounds of their respective brackets. Anna Alons fell in three sets 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 in the No. 1 bracket while Ellie Burger dropped her match 6-4, 7-5 in the fourth.
 
The Bears finished in the runner-up spots in both doubles finals with Alons and Burger falling 6-0 in flight one, while Alye Darter and Mara Presot battled, their opponents edged past 6-3.
 
After a successful run at the MVC Individual Championships, the Bears hope to continue their success as they head to the ITA Regional Championships in Iowa City, Iowa from Oct. 12 -16.
