SPRINGFIELD – Doubles action was in full swing as the Missouri State women's tennis team had multiple wins during the first day of the Missouri State Fall Invitational at Cooper Tennis Complex Friday.
 
The tandem of Alye Darter and Mara Presot won out to take third place in the No. 2 doubles bracket. Their day began with a quick 6-3 victory against Tennessee State's Vishwanath and Kakkar to put them in the semifinals. Darter and Presot dropped a tight 6-4 match between Southeast Missouri State, but followed it up with a 6-3 decision over Missouri to solidify their ranking.
 
In the third flight, Clara Gandara Gonzalez and Alexia Meyer won two of their three contests to take consolations. After falling 6-2 to Tennessee State to start the day, Gandara Gonzalez and Meyer notched back-to-back decisions against fellow teammates Brooke Smith and Courtney Potter, 6-2, and SEMO, 6-4.
 
"I'm seeing a lot of progress in our doubles," said Head Coach Mallory Weber. "This is a tough tournament and I love how we are doing better at playing aggressive on big points. I look forward to seeing that carry over into singles tomorrow."
 
Phoebe Boeschen teamed up with Central Arkansas' Van Heerden in the third flight, advancing to the championship match. The duo battled in a tough 7-5 win over SEMO before sweeping Louisiana Monroe 6-0 to get to the finals. SEMO would net the bracket win with a 6-4 decision.
 
Anna Alons and Fati Khamissi notched their lone doubles victory of the day against Western Illinois, 6-1.
 
The Bears will start singles play tomorrow at 10 a.m.
