Iowa City, Iowa – The Missouri State women's tennis team completed its first day of action at the ITA Central Regional Championships on Friday.
Three Bears competed in qualifying singles, needing to win two rounds in order to move onto the main singles draw.
Mara Presot opened regional play for Missouri State, falling 6-2, 6-0 to her Oklahoma opponent. She is set to face conference foe Northern Iowa in the consolation round tomorrow.
Fati Khamissi and
Clara Gandara Gonzalez dropped their matches in the qualifiers 6-4, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-1, respectively. Both will join Presot in the backdraw on Saturday.
In main doubles,
Alye Darter and Khamissi fell in an 8-4 decision to Minnesota.
Darter is set to compete in the main singles bracket against Kansas State heading underway tomorrow.
